Wormhole hacker moves $155M in biggest shift of stolen funds in months

Blockchain transaction history shows that the hacker transferred the funds onto a DEX and then went on to cycle funds around different DeFi protocols.

The hackers behind the attack of 321 million US dollars Wormhole Bridge transferred many stolen assets. According to the transaction data, on January 23, ETH, valued at $155 million, was transferred to the blockchain technology exchange (DEX).

Wormhole hackers are the third largest data encryption hackers in 2022. Previously, the dynamic password bridge of the protocol was attacked on February 2, causing damage to 120000 external packaging ETH (wETH) worth about 321 million dollars.

According to the transaction history time of the wallet address claimed by the hacker, the latest theme activity shows that 95630 ETH was sent to OpenOcean DEX and then converted into ETH linked property, such as Lido Finance's stacked ETH (stETH) and wrapped stacked ETH (wstETH).

When further exploring the historical time of the transaction, the members of the data encryption cell such as Spreckaway also said that the hackers had conducted a series of strange transactions again.

For example, hackers use the stETH they hold as collateral, borrow 13 million DAI stable currency, and then exchange it for a large number of stETH, and then package it into stETH again, and then borrow some DAI.

It is noteworthy that the Wormhole elite team has already seized the opportunity to bring a reward of US $10 million to the hacker again. If he returns all the assets, he will leave a message in the transaction.

According to the information of Dune Analytics, the high-value ETH transaction of hackers has a direct relationship with the price of stETH. The asset price was slightly lower than the peg-in rate of 0.9962 ETH on January 23, and reached 1.0002 ETH the next day, and then fell back to 0.9981 when writing this article.

Due to recent events, wormhole hackers may cause more attention. Blockchain security companies such as Ancilia Co., Ltd. warned on January 19 that the promotion advertising website marked by Google search engine keyword "wormhole bridge" at this stage is actually a fishing practice.

The community has been warned that they need to be vigilant about the information related to this school year.
