Promoting equality in crypto and finance — Interview with OANDA

Breaking down barriers and promoting equality in finance — a female CEO in finance shares her insights.

When celebrating International Working Women's Day on March 8th in the world, the most important thing is to reflect the achievements and contributions made by women in every industry, including the financial industry. In this interview, Jessica Beckstead, CEO and CEO of North America, shared her experience and views on gender equality in the industry.

In this day and age of celebrating women's social, economic, cultural and political achievements, her views on women starting from the financial industry and her persistent efforts to promote a great deal of fairness and understanding in all financial industries, and is aware of what still needs to be done to promote gender equality.

Q: what makes you want to enter the financial industry?

It all started when I was still studying international politics and economics in college. I officially start day-to-day trading. I found it really exciting, so I definitely went into the financial and trading industries, but the stock market was not really attractive to me-I wanted to be more global. In 2004, I first worked as a sales and marketing trader at FXCM and gradually began to be promoted, and finally became CEO and CEO of FXCM Australia. I added OANDA in September last year. My first job as a marketing trader was to cover the Asian market, so I worked from 2pm to 2am, which is not a good way to meet people in a new city, but we all have to move from one place to another. It is shocking for me to follow a passion and combine it with what I learned in college.

Q: do you have any advice for women who want to work in the login password / finance industry?

Find a female teacher who is already in this field, she can guide you and guide you to solve some of the problems you may face, and give you a sense of your own difficulties. There are also so many institutions focused on women in the technology and financial industries, so this is what I suggest to all those who are just starting out. You will see that female leaders do need to develop this connection and help move it forward. This is part of my OANDA related work, and I will definitely give priority to this matter.

Q: what are the three main lessons you have learned in your career?

When I was promoted to management:

  1. Be sure to explain "why". Why do we treat something as a business? What is the difference? It's not just domineering.
  2. Maintain full transparency. If you try to decorate things, or don't tell the whole show, according to my personal experience, the loss outweighs the gain. So, understand why you get what you get, why the conclusion is theirs, and so on.
  3. Strike a balance between overall awareness and weeds. This is particularly important as I move into more executive positions. It is absolutely necessary to have a vision of 30,000 feet from beginning to end, but it requires that you are not afraid to get into the weeds and recognize the small details. I think it is precious to have a clear understanding of what you encourage employees to do and what they look like every day.

Q: what is the most challenging aspect of being a CEO in the investment community?

The field of foreign exchange accounts and passwords in the financial industry is growing particularly rapidly. The average daily turnover in the foreign exchange market alone exceeds 750 million US dollars. In general, you need to be able to digest and absorb the content of the information, analyze the content of the information, and make an immediate decision (the best decision).

Since the start of the campaign in 2004, the industry has undergone earth-shaking changes, and regulation has always been an integral part of these changes. It is naturally conducive to generating realism for the industry, but it must be a test to maintain a balance between implementing and educating customers on how to prepare for this change.

Q: a recent data survey by OANDA reported that more female traders than male traders plan to invest in encrypted data this year. What do you think is the reason?

There has been a lot of scientific research on why there are fewer female traders than male traders, and most studies have shown that women are generally more disgusted with risk. If they have $10,000, in terms of applied statistics, they are more likely to deposit the money in a bank card account than to buy and sell it. But if we look at the buy-and-sell pass rate, female traders are generally more organized and disciplined, which may lead to more conclusions.

For people in this industry, the most important thing is to make sure that people focus on ways to manage risks-raising stops or limits on buying and selling stocks, ensuring that we minimize the use of financial leverage, and provide better cultural education to enhance women's participation.

Q: who was the female role model that encouraged you from your first step into the financial industry?

I've always had a lot of respect for Sally Ernest Cheek. I admire her enterprising form for a period of time, when there were very few women like her, and she persevered in the difficulties she faced.

Q: what is your goal as the CEO of OANDA? What are you doing to promote a deeper level of fairness and understanding in all financial markets departments?

Our own motto is "smarter business", which really shows the way people deal with problems in OANDA. We hope to provide users with first-class products and continue to improve accordingly. Some of the enhancements that you will launch this year include improving data charts, launching loyalty programs to reward our products, and something I'm excited about-more zero-distance themed events, in which you will be able to give additional cultural education to our products and take some time to get to know our customers.

While it is clear that there are challenges to be addressed in the financial sector at the level of gender equality, it is encouraging to see the progress made. Now more and more women enter the industry and become role models for others, and the future of female entrepreneurs and managers in the password industry is bright.
