Polygon and Mercy Corps bring blockchain to underserved communities

The Polygon network and Mercy Corps Ventures partnership target underserved communities in blockchain awareness and education initiatives.

Blockchain technology continues to be the mainstream view because many companies use it as part of their operations. While promoting the adoption of this technology, more education about the technology is also needed.

On 2 March, the Polygon blockchain Network announced a new partnership with Mercy Corps Ventures, the investment arm of the humanitarian organization Mercy Corps, focusing on bringing blockchain education and opportunities to underserved communities.

According to the announcement, the new partnership has three main objectives, namely to strive to bring blockchain and Web3 solutions to "traditionally excluded and underserved communities".

These goals include funding for blockchain pilots with access to the financial system, organizing blockchain hackathons in emerging markets with developers serving users, and creating blockchain training camp roadshows in areas where Mercy Corps exists.

Partners believe that these efforts can help "provide education and information conferences for local educational institutions, non-governmental organizations and other organizations that want to improve their operations through blockchain technology."

Last month, Mercy Corps Ventures launched Crypto for Good Fund II, which aims to launch a series of pilot projects using blockchain technology to promote global financial inclusion and further climate resilience. The first iteration of the fund was launched in 2022 and had nearly 200 applicants.

In view of the recent earthquake that devastated parts of Turkey and Syria, Mercy Corps participated in a series of donations from the password community to provide assistance.

The company reportedly received half of the money donated by Binance, the cryptocurrency exchange, totaling about $60, 000 at the time.

In addition, Ripple said on Twitter that it would donate $1 million worth of XRP (XRP) in view of the incident, and stressed that Mercer was one of the recipients of the funds.

The charity team responded to the donation on Twitter, thanking Ripple for supporting its ground team in northwestern Syria. Recently, donations made in cryptocurrency in times of crisis have proved to be a way to magnify the speed and coverage of the funds needed.
