Reliance Retail has implemented support for the digital rupee in its gourmet store line Freshpik.
Reliance Retail, one of India's largest retail chains, has announced that it is now accepting data rupees in one store and plans to extend the marketing to the entire business process.
In a statement, Tech Crunch said its specialty gourmet store Freshpik has already been launched for Central Bank Digital currency (CBDC). In addition, the company also mentioned that it would extend its strong support for digital rupees to all its property management, a move that could promote the selection of CBDC in the host country.
V Subramaniam, an executive at Reliance Retail, stressed that the acceptance of the central bank's digital currency was in line with the company's vision of giving "the energy of choice" to Indian consumers. The executive also said the measure allowed the company to offer another payment option in its storefront.
It is reported that Reliance Retail cooperates with ICICI financial institutions, Kotak Mahindra banks or financial companies, and Innoviti Technologies to support CBDC. Consumers who choose to charge data rupees will receive a QR code at the store to complete the payment.
On October 7th the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) summed up its country's CBDC plan in a 51-page newsletter. The central bank of the host country defines a variety of elements, including implicit positive and negative effects. According to the Reserve Bank of India, one of the motivations behind CBDC is to control the cash operating costs of the management method.
The Bank of India opened a demonstration site for the wholesale price of rupees for institutions and merchants in November 2022. On December 1, 2022, the central bank opened the CBDC demonstration site to face retail consumers in a closed consumer group made up of merchants and customers.
