FinCEN lists Binance among the top Bitcoin counterparties of Bitzlato

FinCEN placed Binance next to the darknet market Hydra as a major counterparty receiving Bitcoin from Bitzlato.

The Financial Crime Enforcement Internet (FinCEN) under the US Treasury has made up lies, and Binance is related to the illegal cryptocurrency service platform Bitzlato.

In a directive issued on January 18th, FinCEN stated that the Binance cryptocurrency exchange is one of Bitzlato's "top three receiving enemies" in terms of BTC (BTC) trading.

Binance is one of the larger counterparties that received bitcoin from Bitzlato between May 2018 and September 2022, according to the government. FinCEN stressed that other counterparties include the Russian-related dark net sales market Hydra and the so-called Russian Ponzi scheme.

On the other hand, FinCEN does not mention that Binance is the top three push counterparty in order information. According to this document, one of Bitzlato's largest BTC publishers during the period from May 2018 to September 2022 was Hydra, Germany's LocalBitcoins and Finiko.

FinCEN wrote in the directive: "the biggest recipient of Bitzlato's enemy, Juli, is about 2/3 related to dark market or fraud." The agency stressed that between 2019 and 20121, Bitzlato won $206 million worth of login passwords from the dark web sales market, $224 million from fraud and $9 million from ransomware cyber attacks.

The news comes at a time when several foreign governments have taken important law enforcement actions against Zlatow, accusing the company of money laundering and providing help on suspicion of avoiding a ban on Russia. As part of the case against Bitzlato, the Federal Bureau of investigation arrested Bitzlato founder Anatoly Legkodymov in Miami on January 17th.

Unlike important login password exchanges such as Binance or Coinbase, Bitzlato is an unknown cryptocurrency service center. The website, founded in 2016, is reported to be equipped with a company office in the skyscraper of the Federal Government Business Building in Moscow, accepting $100000 or more in transactions.

Binance's alleged involvement in the Bitzlato case has raised concerns about the operation of the exchange and potential ties with Russia. As previously reported, Binance is one of the exchanges that chose to continue to serve unbanned Russians after the European Union imposed an eighth ban on Russia.

In response to Cointelegraph's request for a post on FinCEN's reference to bindings in the Bitzlato case, a spokesman for Binance said that the company had been working with regulators, saying:

Binance is very pleased to provide a great deal of support to international law enforcement partners to support this survey. This reflects Binance's focus on working with law enforcement partners around the world. "

FinCEN didn't immediately respond to Cointelegraph's request for comment.
