Federal judge hints at denying Sam Bankman-Fried any internet access as condition of bail: Report

The judge reportedly did not expand SBF’s bail conditions to include restrictions on the internet or VPNs, but asked his lawyers to pay for a consultant to explore the matter.

Judge Lewis Kaplan reportedly checked Rob Bankman-Fried's network application at a hearing, checking the phenomenon of the former FTXCEO application virtual private network (VPN).

According to an article by NPR journalist Peter Gula on February 16th, Judge Kaplan seems to have proposed rejecting Bankman Fried's use of any electronics and the Internet as a condition of his bail. Although SBF's lawyer said Joe Bankman and Barbara Fried had no TV at their home in California-most of the former FTXCEO has been locked up there since he was arraigned abroad in December-the presiding judge retorted that there was an "electronics garden" that could connect to the Internet.

Bankman-Fried first appeared in court on January 29th and February 12th, when he applied the VPN legal hazard to express his opinion. SBF's lawyer claimed that he had been watching football matches for years, but prosecutors indicated that the use of VPN caused "a lot of potential anxiety".

Prosecutors proposed limiting Bankman-Fry 's VPN app as a condition of its bail, as well as using some communications apps and touching current or ex-boyfriend employees of FTX and Alameda Research. President Kaplan reportedly did not extend SBF's bail conditions to online or VPN restrictions, but had to have a consultant from its legal and regulatory elite team hoping to present the impact of the technology in court.

Bankman-Fried's criminal trial is scheduled for October, when he faces eight judicial charges, including telecom network fraud and violation of competitive accounting laws. The borrower of the FTX bankruptcy also sent a court subpoena to the former CEO, ordering him to sue and submit some documents and information related to his time at FTX.
