Fake Ethereum Denver website linked to notorious phishing wallet

Hackers continue to create fake Web3-enabled websites to fleece unsuspecting victims’ browser-based wallets, with ETHDenver being the latest victim.

A bogus website of the popular ETH Danver conference is the latest overall goal of fishing in an early warning smart contract book that has already stolen more than $300000 worth of etherland.

This week, the website of the popular conference was copied by cyber hackers in an attempt to cajole customers into connecting to his MetaMak wallet. According to BlockFrike, which identified the fraudulent website, the smart contract has visited more than 2800 wallets and stolen more than $300,000 in the past six months.

ETHDenver still issued a notice to followers on Twitter warning the intentional site.

Lego CEO Omri Lahaf told Cointelegraph that the system software would prompt the user to connect his MetaMak wallet using the usual "connect wallet" button. The site will prompt a sale, and if the sale is approved, it will act intentionally and steal customer funds.

The research team isolated from the wall identified the incident while tracking different developments in the field. Since its deployment in 2022, fraudulent smart contracts have stolen more than 177 ETH, Lahaf said:

"because the smart contract book was deployed nearly six months ago, it may be used for other fishing sites."

Internet hackers even paid for Google's advertising campaign to promote URL, a deliberate site, in the hope that the search trend will rise, and ETHDenver will be held on February 24 and 25. This bogus site ranks second in Google's search engine, higher than the specific ETHDenver site.

As Cointelegraph reports, cyber hackers and scams are once again accustomed to the digital currency ecosystem. In 2022, more than $2.8 billion in digital currency was stolen through a number of hacking and attacks.
