Introduced in 2021, the European Digital Identity framework aims to enable and protect the digital identity of EU citizens.
Due process in Europe is pushing for the release of digital wallets within the EU, and they have transferred the advocacy to negotiations between organisations through an overall online vote.
The European Parliament voted online on March 15th to negotiate with EU countries on the revision of a new European data identity (EID) architecture, according to an official announcement. The overall public vote was 418 in favor, 103 in boycott and 24 legislators abstaining.
Legislators said that after the success of the plenum, the European Council is now ready to gradually explore the final approach of the law. The announcement stressed that the House's position during the negotiation period would be based on the amendment bill applied by the Federation of Industrial production, Scientific Research and Energy (ITRE) in February.
As previously reported, ITRE included zero-knowledge proof in the Eid al-Fitr amendment, which aims to allow EU citizens to have good control over his identity information.
The European Parliament said: "this plan will allow citizens to identify and verify their identities on the Internet based on European data identities." without having to ask for commercial service providers as they do now-this has caused anxiety at the level of trust, security and privacy. "
The Eid al-Fitr legal proposal was explicitly proposed in June 2021 to create a "European data identity" and a dedicated digital wallet for citizens and businesses of EU countries. The European data identity wallet, also known as EDIW, is designed to allow EU individuals or companies to store identity data such as names and detailed addresses, as well as intelligent documents, including bank account data information, birth medical certificates, academic qualifications and other cross-border e-commerce application documents.
