Climate tech VC argues Bitcoin's ESG positives outweigh its negatives 31:1

The Bitcoin network has a 31:1 positive to negative ratio according to climate tech VC Daniel Batten.

A climatic high-tech investor is optimistic about the development prospects of the Bitcoin Internet, believing that the positive impact of Bitcoin on the environment outweighs the negative impact, accounting for 31:1.

"Bitcoin may be the most important ESG technology of our time," Toni Barton, a self-proclaimed philanthropist and environmentalist, tweeted on Jan. 12.

According to Barton, the positive effect of 31:1 was calculated based on research and interviews with grid technical engineers, climate experts, BTC mining engineers, leading experts on methane energy conservation and emission reduction, as well as solar power and wind installation workers.

Research shows that Bitcoin may be good for the environment in 21 areas, while only five areas may be bad for the environment.

Barton said the findings were "shockingly similar" to research in the solar industry.

Many proactive aspects relate to the benefits of renewable resources grid and mining, such as becoming the cutting-edge technology to solve the oversupply and undersupply of power grid. Bitcoin miners can also be turned on or off depending on electricity demand.

In addition, BTC mining can be used as a physical geographic reduction solution. The reduction of power engineering means that the generation capacity is intentionally reduced to less than that generated by balanced power supply and demand, or due to the limitation of transmission and distribution.

According to Barton's research, innovation and reducing methane emissions are also beneficial.

BTC mining can be used to reduce landfill gas and torch emissions by using this otherwise wasted electric energy to power the rig.

Rare adverse effects include the level of Internet emissions, the cause of electronic waste and the previous opening of fossil energy industry bases. However, according to Patton, the subjective factors of the environment far outweigh this negative attitude:

"the efficient recycling of Bitcoin mining can inspire other industry sectors to learn from it."

"We can see that Bitcoin mining can achieve a real effect on methane energy conservation and emission reduction around the world," he concluded.

On January 13, the South China Morning Post reported that Bitcoin caused 86.3 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions in 2022, thus resisting the position that Bitcoin is good for the environment.

However, according to Forex statistics, it does agree that Etai Fong's carbon dioxide emissions fell from 2195 million tons in 2021 to 8824 tons the previous year. Last year, Taifang was put together and converted into risk proof, reducing the loss of Internet functions by 99.98%.
