Magic Eden launches marketplace for Bitcoin Ordinals

It’s one of the first major NFT marketplaces to join the Bitcoin Ordinals fray, which as of March 21 boasted 567,087 inscriptions.

Magic Eden, the irreplaceable tokens market, has launched its own bitcoin serial number market, taking advantage of the strong interest in bitcoin NFT.

The new market allows BTC NFT traders to buy and sell bitcoin Ordinal collections, providing users with experiences similar to those offered by Magic Eden for Polygon, Etherum and Solana NFT.

"just as we have expanded to other chain stores, our goal now is to bring our expertise in building markets to a nascent but thriving and orderly ecosystem," the company said in a statement on March 21. "

The new serial number protocol was launched in January by Kathy Rodmar, a former core contributor to bitcoin. Since then, the popularity of bitcoin serial numbers has soared.

From February 1 to March 1, the total number of bitcoin serial number inscriptions soared from 679 to 240000, according to Dune Analytics. As of March 21, a total of 567087 people had been inscribed.

The Magic Garden of Eden said: "We pay close attention to the release of the theory of order and the lightning speed of adoption that follows." He added:

Our market was built within a month and culminated in a hackathon in California with more than a dozen developers.

At present, the market only supports the secondary sale of bitcoin serial numbers. The market says it is also working on future tools that will make it easier for creators to forge or engrave bitcoin NFT, such as the LaunchPad it offers to other chain stores.

To achieve unauthorized swaps, it uses partially signed bitcoin transactions-a bitcoin standard that allows multiple parties to sign the same transaction-rather than smart contracts.

Meanwhile, Magic Eden said that while it would not provide royalty support to the market, it was "actively studying" the issue, adding that "there are few tools and there are no safe and unreliable law enforcement solutions."

Magic Garden of Eden said: "as there is no royalty standard at present, we have decided to launch it on Bitcoin for the time being without royalty support."

"We believe this is best in line with the spirit of the ecosystem, but nevertheless, we are actively developing a chained, unauthorized royalty standard and are committed to working with creators and the larger community," it added.

Other bitcoin serial number markets have been launched, including ORDX and Generative XYZ, which was launched in February. Earlier this week, NFT platform Gamma.io launched its own bitcoin serial number market, which allows users to create and trade serial number inscriptions in a manner similar to the Ethernet NFT market.

Cointelegraph contacted Magic Eden for comment but did not immediately receive a response.
